BA in Comparative Islamic Studies

The Honors Program at Usul Academy is a rigorous 4-year BA in Comparative Islamic Studies. Each year consists of three 10-week terms of virtual learning, and the first and last year of the program include a mandatory 3-week Summer Suhba retreat in Istanbul. 

Candidate requirements

Below are the requirements for applicants to be eligible for the BA in Comparative Social Sciences:

  1. Applicant must have at least graduated from high school, and be currently enrolled in, or have graduated from an undergraduate degree program.

  2. Applicant must show proof of English proficiency, either by being previously educated in an English-speaking institution or by submitting a certificate such as TOEFL.

  3. Applicants are not required to know Arabic to apply for the BA program. However, proficiency equivalent to Intermediate-Hight according to ACTFL standards is required to enter Foundations Year 1 of the BA Program. . All accepted applicants undergo an Arabic proficiency assessment. Those who do not pass the Arabic proficiency assessment will be automatically admitted to the 1-year Academic Arabic Preparatory Program.

  1. Your most recent transcript (student/unofficial copies are accepted).

  2. A Personal Statement: Your Statement of Purpose is not limited to, but should address, the following three questions:

    1. How has your education or life experiences prepared you for this program?

    2. What do you hope to get out of the program?

    3. How does the program fit into your life goals?

  3. Your CV.

  4. A picture of yourself.

  5. Names and e-mails of 2 references. References can include: teachers, professors, supervisors, mentors, shuyukh etc. An automatic e-mail will be sent to your referees.

  • If you require financial aid to pursue your studies at Usul Academy, please complete the financial aid form here after you submit the program application and before June 1st to be eligible.

  • Please note that Usul Academy’s scholarship funds are limited and only students who prove to be in real financial need will be eligible for financial assistance.

  • Financial status has no effect on a student’s application.
